Most TV shows have a number of seasons that end up forming an overall TV series of the show. In this series narrative they will use a Open-Ended narrative so they can attract their audience back to watch he second season of the TV series. An example of a series narrative would be a series called The Inbetweeners. A Serial narrative TV show usually uses a simple bu effective plot device that unfolds throughout a small or big flow of episodes. However their will only be one season and they will not create a second for they will not have a plot to follow because they have unfolded it all in the first season. So on the other hand a Serial TV show follows a Closed narrative. An example of a of a Serial narrative TV show would be a TV show called Casualty. In my opinion both Series and Serial narrative's are just as effective because I think with series it makes people excited for the next season and with serial it makes people excited for each individual episode of the season.
