Most drama programmes tend to use a story arc that stretches from the first episode to the last. However when they show all of these episodes they won't give everything away at the start because they want to keep the viewers interested so they will continue to watch the TV series. So on the other hand drama TV series use an Open-Ended narrative to end the series on a cliff-hanger as an example to draw all of the viewers back for the next series. An example of an Open Ended narrative could be a series called Coronation Street. Whereas on the other hand Sitcom shows as an example tend to use a Closed narrative so they will affirmatively end one of the series randomly. But they will tend to make a goodbye episode to inform the viewers that this will be the last episode. And in the goodbye episode as an example they will tie up all of the story line to bring the series to an end. An example of a Closed narrative TV series would be a series called The Big Bang Theory. In my opinion I find Open Ended TV series a lot more entertaining because it really attracts me towards watching the next season and it makes me feel that I cannot wait. So by television producers doing this they make people a lot more excited before the next series.
